James S. Butts is a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana and graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1973. He served as a Court Officer for the Allen County Superior Courts for three years assisting Judge Robert Meyers. Jim entered law school at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and graduated in 1979. He was admitted to practice law in the State of Indiana before all state courts by the Indiana Supreme Court, and has been admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of the State of Indiana and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago, Illinois. Following receiving his Juris Doctor he returned to Fort Wayne and served as a Judicial Assistant for Judges in the Civil Division of the Allen Superior Courts. In 1980 he founded a law firm with Charles Pratt, who is now an Allen Superior Court Judge, and Karen Richards, who is now the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney. In 1983 his family moved to Warsaw when Jim joined the law firm of Rasor, Harris, Lemon and Reed, which provided him with the opportunity to concentrate his practice in the areas of family and business law, civil litigation, trials and appeals. He decided to venture out on his own in 1993 and began a solo practice where he is currently located today.
Terri Sprunger is Jim's Legal Assistant. They worked together at Rasor, Harris, Lemon, and Reed. Terri joined Jim's private practice in 2001. She has become a cornerstone of his law practice and they work together to ensure that clients receive the professional representation necessary to protect their interests, and the personal attention required to assist clients through the legal issues and proceedings.
